Build a Servo Controller!

Use the circuit below!

The 555 timer can do this job easily and after tinkering around myself I found a circuit that works fine and will turn the servo approximately 150 degrees.

All this circuit does is change the pulse width down the yellow wire (just like any receiver), causing the servo to move.

The adjustable 50K pot can be panel mounted by switching it with a standard potentiometer although it is much easier to build with a miniature pot.

A servo works by detecting the duration of pulses down the yellow wire.

These timings are only for illustration, the actual times depend on the manufacturer, however this servo controller I found to work on both Hitec and Futaba.

All these components can be found in Maplin Electronics product numbers:-
  • QH66W - 555 Timer
  • QL73Q - Diode
  • N42BR - Potentiometer
  • M18K - 18K Resistor
  • M680K - 680K Resistor
  • BX74R - 0.047uF Capacitor
  • BX76H - 0.1uF Capacitor
Total Cost Of £1.12!
